Gunggandji Aerospace is Australia’s first and only Indigenous-owned aerospace consultancy. It facilitates non-traditional pathways into a career in the Australian space industry and other emerging sovereign sectors for Indigenous Australians and other disadvantaged communities. This innovative approach to workforce development was designed to inspire and support First Nations Australians to be active participants in aerospace and emerging industries. Not only will this encourage more people into the workforce, but it will also ensure Australia’s defence capabilities are met.
Founder and Managing Director Gunggandji Aerospace Daniel Joinbee is a proud descendant of the Gunggandji People of Yarrabah and a retired Air Force veteran.

Agenda C launched the Gunggandji Aerospace brand with Managing Director Daniel Joinbee in April 2023 in a series of events that took place in Cairns, at the gateway to Australia’s new spaceport, Queensland Australia.
Agenda C developed and delivered a media campaign plan to promote Australia’s first indigenous aerospace company as Space Centre Australia continues its build of Australia’s first Australian multi-use spaceport in Weipa, Queensland.
The series of events in Cairns included an inaugural First Nations space industry networking evening at the Pullman Hotel, a space industry roundtable held at the Regional Cairns Council and a morning roundtable breakfast with the US Ambassador, Caroline Kennedy and First Nations Councillors and Mayors. The events began with a welcome to country from Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islanders, who were excited about the opportunities being created for Indigenous and Non-Indigenous Australians. In attendance were dignitaries including Federal MP Warren Entsch, CEO of Space Centre, James Palmer, and event organiser and Founder of Illuminate FNQ Sharon Bonython-Ericson.
A media campaign was created to bring awareness through interviews and print and digital publication with the Cairns Post and ABC Radio Queensland. Along with social media and video marketing content to promote non-traditional pathways into space industry jobs. Agenda C continues to develop a tailored communications plan to bring awareness to Gunggandji Aerospace’s mission establishing Daniel Joinbee as a leader in Australia’s space industry.
The campaign in Far North Queensland was supported by a series of social media videos filmed and produced by Agenda C, which were posted across owned media channels.
We were honoured to be part of the US Ambassador Caroline Kennedy’s visit to the breakfast round-table discussions and her diplomatic dialogue with First Nations leaders, exemplifying the international importance of Far North Queensland’s space capabilities.
In May 2023, Daniel Joinbee was recognised as Indigenous leader of the year at the Space Connect Australian Space Awards.
Our results generated extensive coverage across Queensland and nationally. Our tailored communications plan had a reach of over 1.4 million Australians. Across the nation, Australians were reminded of the vital role Indigenous Australians have in our nation’s space industry and the importance of placing Australia as an essential player in the international space arena.
Agenda C, in partnership with Gunggandji Aerospace, boosted the awareness of Indigenous non-traditional pathways into space, cementing the role of indigenous knowledge and traditions in the future of our space industry.
As the space industry heads toward the stars, Australians must recognise our capacity’s critical role in the international space supply chain and missions. Our communities must buy into the future to ensure we have the skills, knowledge, and experience to be a leader in the final frontier. Indigenous Australians must be given a seat at the table and included in the national conversation around astronomy, space, and defence.
